give me everything everybody I'm Mr Madden and I'm teaching 8th grade physical science and welcome to my classroom let me tell you a little bit about me academically trained marine biologist invertebrate Marine zoologist by education and I spent most of my life working with fish which are vertebrates in all places around the world starting in Hawaii Pacific Asia Africa South America 25 years ago I got off the ship so to speak and I've been teaching here at the junior high now this is my 25th year teaching physical science again welcome to my classroom I hope that you and your students will have a great great year even though we have some difficulties with the distance learning right now you and your child and myself as well we're all having to learn new things and are beginning to appreciate how difficult it is to suddenly jump into something brand new your students will be following the series of broad topics this year starting with what we're doing right now which has to do with matter of the character of matter the type of map what is matter that leads us into things like the atomic structure and basically our chemistry things like chemical reactions and exothermic reactions and ready we won't do much of the way balancing equations but we will do some types of reactions energy flow the system another aspect of our curriculum will be and stability that's are Newton's Laws of Motion things that include first second and third law of motion gravity acceleration velocity action and reaction 1/3 very important component of the curriculum is energy energy flow in the system with chemistry energy flows from one combination of chemicals to another combination of compounds elements and, chemicals are chemical reaction is is a transfer of energy from one source to another along with course the change in the atomic structure of the ingredients we're looking the potential energy kinetic energy energy of motion energy what a caliber is a calorie how does energy flow from one from the hotter to the colder what's the second law of Thermodynamics and another aspect is electricity and magnetism this is a lot of fun we really enjoy you play with magnets basically are learning the flow of energy in electrical system that allows them to create electrical devices or lease to examine and understand how electrical flows in our modern world if we look at we turn the light switch on in the wall and suddenly we have light well how does that happen what is happening here what is it what is a circuit look like what is a what are the various parts of a circuit How is and it isn't an electrical charges related how does it how do they work Motors things like inductive Motors Etc so that's essentially what we were talking about this year. It's a witch truncated many respects because of our limitations our limitations have to do with not being able to do labs in class this is a lab heavy class we do lab once twice several times a week it is something very frustrating for me as a as a teacher that I can't have the students have their own hands on devices and have hands on a laboratory equipment I can demonstrate which I am going to continue to do but I can't always hope that the kids have resources at home that they can do their own will try we'll see what we can do you mean time the best I can do is either demonstrated or show videos of demonstrations which one we provide them with an understanding of what the kind of line concepts of of our work is my students syllabus the contract with you and your student has gone out you should have received it now and returned it to me of course that has all the information that you need regarding academic expectations and Grading contacting me and little bit more about what the course is on the and if you need to reach me I'm available by phone area code 714-990-7500 extension 136 here at the school on the wise email B Madden at bousd. Us will reach me I try to reach everybody Within I need a 24 hours but so give me a minute to give me a little bit of time if for some reason or another I don't really respond to you if it's pretty clear that over a weekend I typically to try to take Saturdays off but I almost always get back on before Sunday's over anyway I'm welcome you and hopefully this year will be or the semesters are only for your students will be a good one thank you goodbye
