well hello everybody by mr. Madden I my teaching an elective class called Marine Science and your son and daughter are currently attending this is a class that is one semester old Lee and it covers the marine environment both vertebrates fish invertebrates things I crabs and trim good Mobsters an octopus and sea urchins and starfish and all the other denizens of the ocean I'd also is a lab-based class insofar as it we do dissections all sharks fish squid unfortunately we are not able to do any of that for the moment until we are able to get back into a regular classes either through the hybrid model or back full-time and but we do the best we can with the circumstances under the circumstances a little bit about me I am a this is my 25th year of teaching here at the junior high I normally teach physical size eighth grade physical science but the last couple years I've been teaching Marine Science I am a marine biologist by education and by training University of Hawaii graduate 1968 I have an invertebrate Marine degree I have sores all over the world in the Pacific primarily Asia mostly but also in Africa for great lengths of time South America and Central America so about 25 years ago I and began working teaching here at the junior high your student is right now just working on book work videos I'm struggling to figure out how best to reach your student to provide them with a rich environment and to give them a real sense of what in Marine Science and marine biology is all alike all about I would prefer to have them hands on and have their fingers into the middle of a shark or a dissecting a shot Fisher looking to scales or drawing pictures of the of the fish of the intestinal tracts etcetera etcetera along the way a little bit about the anatomy of all are all sorts of organisms my
