Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) continues to make steady progress on projects funded through the voter-approved Measure H Bond, transforming aging facilities into modern learning environments that will benefit students for generations to come.
Brea Junior High (BJH) Modernization Project
Planning and design for BJH modernization continue on schedule as BOUSD transforms the century-old campus into a state-of-the-art learning environment for future generations. The modernization project represents the largest investment of Measure H bond funding and will include a complete transformation of the campus with new learning spaces and improvements. This spring, BJH staff participated in collaborative design meetings, providing valuable input that is helping shape the architectural plans and future learning spaces. As part of the project's early planning efforts, title documents obtained also confirmed that the adjacent BJH Park is owned by the District. This information provides greater flexibility as the District continues to refine the campus design and long-term site plan. The District is also preparing to bring forward an agreement with PlaceWorks to begin the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review process. Concurrently, planning is also underway for interim housing, with construction of a temporary portable campus anticipated to begin in 2027. Students and staff are expected to relocate at the start of the 2028–29 school year while the existing campus is demolished and rebuilt, ensuring teaching and learning continue uninterrupted throughout construction.
Falcon Academy Kitchen & Multipurpose Room
The District continues to advance plans for a new and expanded kitchen and multipurpose room at Falcon Academy. The project successfully completed the schematic design phase this past spring. Current construction costs are estimated at approximately $11 million. The new facility will provide students with a modern kitchen and multipurpose space to support school meals, assemblies, performances, and other campus activities. A conceptual rendering of the future building is included with this update, offering a glimpse of the exciting enhancements planned for the Falcon Academy campus.
Brea Olinda High School (BOHS) Path of Travel Project
The project has expanded in scope following direction from the Board of Education this past spring, creating an opportunity to address several campus priorities through a comprehensive improvement plan. The project now includes accessibility and path of travel improvements, critical infrastructure and site enhancements, main gym improvements, upgrades to the Performing Arts Center, and athletic and aquatics improvements, which were supported through an additional $8 million Measure H allocation. With an estimated project value of approximately $43.2 million, the District plans to strategically leverage Measure H bond proceeds along with other available facility funding sources to maximize the impact of these investments while improving accessibility, enhancing campus safety, and expanding opportunities for years to come.
