On Thursday, December 18, Superintendent Brinda Leon sent a letter to all Brea Olinda Unified School District employees and families regarding the arrest of BOUSD Board Trustee Christopher Becerra. The message reads as follows:

Dear BOUSD Families and Staff,
At Brea Olinda Unified School District, our top priority is to provide a safe and stable educational environment for all students. When issues arise that jeopardize this stability, it is our responsibility to communicate with you.
Today, we are writing to inform you of an ongoing investigation involving Christopher Becerra for crimes as described by the Brea Police Department press release. We understand these are deeply disturbing allegations, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff. The Brea Olinda Unified School District takes allegations of misconduct extremely seriously, and we do not condone any inappropriate behavior by adults, regardless of their position or authority.
The District understands that this news may be upsetting, and we want to assure you that we are taking all necessary steps available to us, under the law for elected officials, to address the situation and to ensure that our students are safe and supported. At this time, the District has no knowledge of any misconduct involving current BOUSD students or staff members, and will continue to work with the Brea Police Department to fully cooperate with this investigation.
We encourage you to talk to your children about the importance of reporting any incidents of inappropriate conduct or behavior to a trusted adult. We also want to remind you that we have resources available to support students and staff who may need additional support during this time.
These allegations may bring up strong feelings and emotions for many in our community, and we ask for the public’s help in keeping any in-person and online conversations respectful in nature. The District is unable to provide any further comments on this ongoing investigation.
