is Mike Canales on your son or daughter's algebra teacher this year Brea Junior High going to go through some information for you for back school night so questions via email do whatever I can to help you out with this so I'm going to share the screen you should have already seen this but just going through what we talked about the first week of school just the expectations in this class Eastern sky paper calculator excetera pencil daily Ruby working in the workbook textbook so those need to be acceptable at home and eventually when we get to school don't need to be acceptable at school online expectations kids are doing great my class there at end of their they're being part of the conversation they're asking questions on those expectations is a tough class they need to be focused and ready to roll in this class if there is issues here I'll definitely communicate that with you Google Classroom is the main way I'm communicating all the assignments are coming that direction remind is another thing that I'll be using and have you but the kids just to give them information and self if they're absent that's the place to check each day they should be checking their to kind of see where we're going and what we're doing I do have on my web just kind of a pace of what we're doing and what we're covering and I'll keep that updated as we go and I will continue to send out emails through Aries by every couple weeks and but just in general if you have communication shoes are just questions don't hesitate to get in touch with me homework is pretty much every day and in algebra it's just a lot of material I try not to kill him with homework but they are going to get some I'm hoping for less than half an hour but no more than an hour a day and then truly were going to spend some time in class in this and work together on some of this stuff so again I'm hoping for it's less than 30 minutes per day and we graded on this for scale complete and correct its full credit all the way to 0 less than halfway complete late homework if somebody's absent I'm definitely going to work with them and extenuating circumstances if they communicate with me also work with them but I want the homework turned in consistently on time testing we tossed a quiz and a test for the most in each module we just had our first on Wednesday we had some that did really well and we not others that didn't do as well it was open note and open calculator this test is kind of interesting because it is play regardless it kind of went the same as it's gone Dupree this year's even though we've been distance learning the nice things about quizzes and tests is if somebody does poorly on a quiz they have the opportunity fix that on the test safer and since somebody got a c-minus on this task a 28 out of 40 and didn't really do as well as I thought they do will they have the opportunity fix that on a chapter test chapter test if they score and a on the Dr testai change that C- to match to be a day as well I'm we don't do a lot of retesting even though we're going to do it for this last quiz just because I don't think I did a great job of setting this up online I'm learning the same time but we're going to work together on that but again nice thing with tests and quizzes you have an opportunity to fix it with a test if you know what at the end you're where you need to be other things supplemental work in this class and we have 7th graders Graeter's the seventh graders are two years up grade level wise and eighth graders are a year up so when we do State Testing they don't get tested on algebra they get tested on 7th grade and 8th grade standards so at times we will go back and review and do some stuff on some material that they should already know but it's like when they take this test they should score really really well so they'll get some extra work on that I'm x in x at X because third grade level there up top of class and what they're scheduled to be at this point I'm grading in this class 80% test and quiz 20% homework got to do on the test so I know I know not everybody is great take and toss well that's something we work on in this class we want to get better at that so that's something that will prepare for and get better at through the year scale pretty self-explanatory in this class for algebra being class above-grade-level I'm looking for B's or better B's or better as what gets you into geometry next year if somebody's getting a c d or F I need to retake algebra specifically 7th graders need to build an 85% or higher again there's no point in getting a low B or C in this class when you could get an A and grade level work just other things this is kind of my availability I'm the boys athletic director up at the high school and I cook the girls soccer team as well so in the afternoons I'm up at the high school I'm at the Junior High in the mornings best way to get ahold of me is via email and if we need to arrange other options after that we can do that again I said we have a and also set up for the kids just to get them information but pretty much the just of where we're at in this class I this this is really really knew doing the distance learning I like teaching I really enjoy teaching has been fun than ink does my toe 1/7 year that I've been doing this and I wouldn't want to be doing anything else but we're trying to get through this distance learning together I am really looking forward to having your kids in class where we can work together learn together and have come together and in the setting of bath if you have any questions please don't hesitate again I really enjoyed your kids so far in three weeks and we're going to be good time this year thank you
