This video introduces the eighth grade curriculum and teachers. For my seventh grade class, the information is similar. Refer to the class syllabus slide show for specific titles of literature we will read.

good evening parents students and family members and Welcome to our back to school night presentation for 8th grade English Department we're excited to start this I've distance and soon in person instruction let's meet our amazing group of educators hi I'm Terry side and my 22nd year here at Bridge and you're high Alaska Pete's leadership 101 and the athletic director in my spare time in the pool watching TV and rooting for my favorite football team the Denver Broncos my name is Kathleen bought and I teach 7th and 8th grade English this is my 20th year teaching at Brea Junior High my 26-year teaching overall I have lived in New Jersey and also Colorado so I also love the Denver Broncos I love to spend time with my friends and family I love animals I love reading and writing and I love to travel hey my name is Jimmy spell Jesse and this is my sister in your high like 26 years of teaching I also speak Spanish English but hasn't seen is also an eighth grade teacher in a different district and we have two daughters a senior in high school and a senior in college at Cal State Fullerton California address but I'm really passionate about is actually a hockey team I love hockey and I left the Anaheim Ducks my name is John David Williams I'm starting my 25th year at Brea Junior High and please please Gifts of recognition this treated like we did my 20th in my tent and my 15 I'm already Patricia escrow officer I have three kids Jared 24 Sophia 16 and Bella 11 I love sports of all kinds already playing basketball whenever I can Endo I love reading too I guess and writing now let's get to the good stuff and we emphasized the three pillars of language arts lighting communicating if you can do all three of these things you can do anyting miss psych why don't you tell us a little bit about the reading we will study excerpt from several short stories poetry and writing using our study seen throughout the year as well as a white monkey and there are four different books we are currently in moral compass reading short stories about values and life with our first novel is tangerine by Edward Bloor students will have access to the novel through Google classroom they will also be able to check out one from Braden River Library we have a limited amount in the library to check out or if you know that they would like to have an actual copy you are welcome to purchase one but this will be first or the second quarter we will move into in time of War II the Holocaust and we will read the play The Diary of Anne Frank third-quarter will study some Stories full of suspense and our novel is The Giver we will finish the year with Civil War and Chasing Lincoln's killer the spot would you like to talk about writing I would love to give me in addition to reading everyday RC write every day and sometimes they're just doing informal journal sometimes they are writing notes about literature sometimes they are doing creative writing sometimes is practicing writing techniques once a quarter we have them do a formal in-class writing assessment to monitor their growth and then every quarter we have one or two major projects or as including a business letter that they actually will mail out to somebody and I'd like to tell you about the last pillar which is communication via verbal skills being able to articulate what's clearly expressed such a speech has an important skill so we offer numerous opportunities for the students to home these verbal skills and everything nice lyrics for today the pvlegs The Stance toys voice life I contact gestures and Speed Racer the way you notice I try to slow down my speed as I started this part of the speech cuz I noticed I was not a good model of that we rely extensively on Christmas how to Foster collaboration and active listening skills we also incorporate oral presentations to help students creatively Express themselves whether they found poem or Socratic seminar or speech to develop the art of public speaking we are varying to me communication to students are developing wow thank you ladies that with all that work you might be wondering about test well every Wednesday we have word dissection quiz has taken on Google classroom and remember their cumulative so weird after week one could show up on week 7 quiz we all sat tests and quizzes throughout the year and very short stories and novels and plays at wearied rates are broken down in the traditional 90% and above is 80% and above 70% and above is a c with three categories of grades homework and classwork tests and quizzes and essays and projects now citizenship is based upon your participation and behavior in resume meeting that eventually during our in-person instruction turning o you have to be an active participant in class follow the school and class Behavior matrices and be a classroom leader what about Google Classroom you must forgot about that could you fill them in like it since I brought it to you. Hopefully you have also become familiar with their this first fix the school it's a crucial part of my class routine students need to be checking Google Classroom everyday this is where they will be able to find any announcements that we have for them will be able to find links Denny's in meetings that they are expected to attend as mrs.
